Junior Mooting

Mooting is where students are given a fictitious set of facts and present oral arguments on the relevant point of law in mock court proceedings. Mooters compete individually and succeed on their quality of argument, advocacy skills and depth of research. It is a great opportunity to practice your presentation skills and hone your knowledge of the law whilst simultaneously participating in a prestigious competition. Prior experience with debating or public speaking is not required.

At UCL, the Junior Mooting Competition is organised exclusively for first-years. Every year, the vast majority of students find it rewarding to try their hand at mooting. The final will be presided over by a Court of Appeal or Supreme Court judge. There are several opportunities for external competitions which included LSE, Bristol, KCL, Oxford and Cambridge in the past.
